These are rimless type Japanese paper tatami mats and unit tatami mats made by a tatami shop that has been in business for 108 years. You can recreate a Japanese-style room or tatami corner just by laying it down. Available in 7 colors, this modern Japanese tatami mat can also be used in place of a play mat or cork mat. Our tatami mats are made at our own factory in Hiroshima Prefecture.
The front of the tatami mat is made of Hikimeori, the same as the tatami mats used in traditional Japanese rooms. Since it is made of washi paper and contains no nutrients, there is little chance of mold growth. Compared to rush, it is more durable and rarely gets sunburned or faded, so it retains its beauty for a long time. It is also coated with resin and has excellent water repellency. The core material of the tatami mats is the same material as the tatami mats used in Japanese-style rooms, and they are manufactured using traditional methods to ensure that you can enjoy the quality of tatami mats.

[Notes on checkered flooring] Checkered flooring is a method of laying tatami mats in which the grains of adjacent tatami mats are placed in alternating directions. When light hits the eyes of a tatami mat, a shadow is created, but if the eye is directed in a different direction, the shadow will have different shading. The shading of this shadow makes tatami mats of the same color look like a checkered pattern. Depending on the usage environment, the light hitting the tatami may be weak, or if you look at the tatami from directly above, you may not see any shadows, so it may not look like a checkered pattern.
