Product Introduction
The FFM-1 "Mogami" and FFM-2 "Kumano" were approved for construction under the FY2018 budget. Equipped with mine countermeasure sonar, autonomous underwater mine detectors (UUVs), and unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) for mine clearance, these state-of-the-art destroyers are specialized for minesweeping missions against advanced mines.
Stealth has also been enhanced, with most of the equipment installed inside the inclined sides of the ships. Features such as a distinctive unicorn-shaped composite antenna and a pyramidal mast with multi-function radars mounted on four sides set the ships apart from previous destroyers.
