On April 1, 1987, the Japanese National Railways (JNR) was split up and privatized. The JNR Buses, previously operated by the JNR Road Transport Bureau, were reborn as JR Buses.
Initially, each company was directly operated by the railway, but one year later, the Honshu companies were split off, and then the three island companies were successively split off. Currently, all eight companies are operated independently by the railways.
To commemorate the 35th anniversary of the founding of the five JR Bus companies in Honshu, we've created a collection of buses primarily for their former routes.
These buses come in lidded packaging, giving them a commemorative feel.
JR Bus Tohoku: Iwaki-Kakuta
JR Bus Kanto: Awa-Shirahama
West Japan JR Bus: Fukuzumi
JR Central Bus: Seto-Oiwake
