Product Introduction
The Mogami, now a heavy cruiser thanks to its refitted main guns, is back with newly designed common parts.
This is an unpainted kit that requires assembly and painting.
The scale is 1/700, and the underwater model does not include the ship's bottom.
This product is comprised of both the previous (special series) mold and a new additional mold.
The product is based on the period from the outbreak of the Pacific War to the Battle of Midway in June 1942.
The hull cross-section is different from that of the Suzuya and Kumano, and the standard portholes at the start of the war are reproduced in their unobstructed state using special parts.
New molds were used to standardize the accuracy of equipment reproductions across product release periods. Some parts are divided for painting purposes, but the 12.7cm twin anti-aircraft gun A1 Kai 1 is divided into six parts, improving the modeling resolution from the previous two-part version.
The 9-meter cutter is divided into two parts for painting convenience, and the mount is available as a separate part. You can choose between an integrated deck mold and a molded deck.
The 12-meter motorized launch can now be recreated without the canvas.
The 11-meter motorized boat's canvas and wheelhouse/engine room canopy are made into separate parts to allow for painting. Each part is painted and then assembled and glued together later.
The boat stand's uneven shape and light holes are molded in for a more precise design.
A new chrysanthemum crest has been added for the bow.
New sidelights and lifebuoys have been added. The former are to standardize the size of each ship, while the latter are used to add details that were previously omitted.
Decals have been added for the stern ship name (filled in with the warship's colors) and the white line on the mast.
The Type 96 25mm twin machine gun mount now comes standard in a two-part configuration, reducing the need for painting.
Hull Structure
- The hulls of the Mogami and Mikuma, which have a large angle of inclination on the sides at mid-deck level, are recreated using dedicated parts.
- The portholes, which are different from those on the aircraft carrier Mogami, are reproduced in their unobstructed state.
- The external electrical wiring is molded as a single unit into the hull, recreating individual differences such as differences in location near the stern and a higher position in the center.
- The width of the ship near the shelter deck is reproduced by 1.0 mm (on the model) wider than that of the Suzuya/Kumano.
Bridge/Foremast
- The forward mast is exclusive to the Mogami/Mikuma and reproduces its height difference (slightly lower) compared to the Suzuya.
- The observation post equipped with the Type 92 torpedo launch control system, a feature at the time of the outbreak of war, is reproduced.
- The bridge windows are made of transparent parts for a more realistic finish.
- The floors of the air defense command post and compass bridge feature delicate gratings with intricate carvings.
- Special parts are used to recreate the boiler room air intakes on both sides of the rear of the bridge, which are only present on the Mogami/Mikuma.
Chimney/Air Inlet/Linoleum Deck
- The deck access hatch is designed to minimize clutter by minimizing the height and avoiding paint separation at hatch height.
- The Mogami/Mikuma is equipped with 12 boilers, and its forward chimney is thick and forked into two, a special part is provided.
- The funnel cap is a molded part that appears "loose."
- The steam exhaust pipe is a separate part designed to enhance precision and is exclusive to the Mogami/Mikuma.
- The boiler room air inlet below the chimney has a smaller inlet surface on the Mogami/Mikuma, which differentiates it from the Suzuya and is expressed with a special part.
- The machine gun turret next to the chimney has a special part to recreate the unique outline shape of the Mogami/Mikuma.
- The air inlet is arranged in a V-shape behind the chimney (below the searchlight), a feature unique to the Mogami/Mikuma.
- The linoleum deck is provided with dedicated parts due to the different placement of ventilation pipes and equipment from the Suzuya/Kumano.
Antenna Support
- The 12.7cm twin anti-aircraft gun mount is a part exclusive to the Mogami/Mikuma, with a flat underside.
- The antenna support mounted on the 3rd and 4th main gun turret canopies is a dedicated part that reproduces the unique shape of each ship.
Aft Mast/Aft Bridge/Crane
- The aft mast features a Y-shaped part with a rearward-sloping top that is exclusive to the Mogami/Mikuma.
- The floatplane hoisting and storage crane uses a slide mold to recreate the light holes on the sides and top, and the hook is also delicately sculpted.
- The aft bridge comes with a dedicated part that recreates the multiple small air intakes on the sides, a feature unique to the Mogami/Mikuma.
Shelter Deck/Aircraft Operation Deck
- The torpedo tube shelter, including the spare torpedo bay, is recreated based on official drawings.
- The Kure Type 2 Catapult (Kure Type 5) features a slide mold for a realistic side and top design.
Aircraft
- The mold color is gray to improve workability (to prevent damage when cutting the gate).
- Includes one A6M Zero (three-seat) floatplane and two A6M Type 95 floatplanes.
Included Decals
- Includes markings such as the naval ensign, national flag, and the Japanese flag for aircraft carriers.
