Woody Joe 1/75 Scale Daigoji Temple Five-Story Pagoda Wooden Model Assembly Kit
The Daigoji Temple Five-Story Pagoda (a National Treasure) is the oldest wooden structure in Kyoto Prefecture, completed in 951 to pray for the repose of Emperor Daigo.
While the surrounding area was burned down during the Onin War and other events, the five-story pagoda miraculously survived.
Although it suffered extensive damage in the Tensho earthquake, the ruined temple grounds and the pagoda were rebuilt following Toyotomi Hideyoshi's "Daigo Cherry Blossom Viewing" event in March 1598.
The spire, at 12.8 meters, accounts for one-third of the total height of the 38-meter pagoda. The five-story roof tapers off at a steep angle, creating a stable appearance that is said to be the most beautiful pagoda in Japan.
It is one of Japan's three most famous pagodas, along with Horyu-ji Temple in Nara and Ruriko-ji Temple in Yamaguchi.
It is a valuable example of wooden architecture from the Heian period, and the interior murals have been designated a National Treasure as a relic of Heian period painting.
