This is a flat-handled bamboo fan with a flat, spatula-shaped handle. It has been produced in the Marugame region of Sanuki Province (Kagawa Prefecture) since ancient times, and became known throughout Japan as a souvenir for visitors to Konpira Shrine during the Edo period.
